Yet Another Reason to Take Your Business Social

How can customers be hostile to your branding message if they already "like" you?  I suppose you can become so pushy and obnoxious that they eventually "unlike" you.  The point I am making is, Internet Advertising since it's inception has, to one degree or another, been perceived by consumers as an irritant, and of late, an invasion of privacy. The folks at Gallup amplified this notion with their latest survey on "Internet Users' Views About Online Tracking For Ads."  The majority of those surveyed indicate they would like to join a "Do Not Track List."  If one of those becomes available, and it becomes popular, a major weapon in your targeting arsenal will be gone.
Even if you are not currently utilizing tracking in your online campaigns, the fact remains that people who like your brand and profess their allegiance in a social networking environment, are pre-qualified customers. They are also ambassadors for your product or service because all of their friends get to see their "likes." If you haven't yet established a Facebook page, a Twitter feed, or both for your business, now is the time.  Get to know your customers, better yet, let them get to know your business.

News: FCC Approves Net Neutrality Framework

As expected the Federal Communications Commission has approved net neutrality regulations. The vote was 3-2. Next, Congress takes a look at this plan, which is controversial for various reasons (and depending who your friends are); it's future is not cut and dry.

Here are a few good articles on today's passage, some opinion, and insight into the issues Congress will have to grapple with in the coming year:

iPad or something Else?

As you consider buying your first tablet computer to manage your day, your business, and your social media profile, keep in mind the iPad is not the only rock in the pond.  Here's a review of Samsung's new Galaxy tablet from the guys at ZDNet, who like it a lot: (click here).
